What does an ARP Church do?
Each individual ARP congregation provides weekly opportunities for worship, study and service. Visit any ARP church on a Sunday morning and you will most likely find that there is a comfortable consistency in the worship and teaching of each congregation. There may be much less of a consistency of the service ministries in which a particular congregation participates. The congregation may support local ministries specific to there community such as a soup kitchen or food bank. They may participate in national or international ministries such as "Crop Walk" to raise money for the hungry or "Memory Walk" to support research into Alzheimer's Disease. Local congregations support many differing ministries. As a denomination each individual church joins with all other ARP churches in a united ministry effort. As a denomination the ARP Church supports Erskine College and Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West South Carolina, Palmer Home for Children in Columbus MS and Bonclarken Conference in Flat Rock, NC. The ARP Church reaches out in mission across our continent planting new churches through Outreach North America. The ARP mission extends to the world through World Witness in support of missionaries in many foreign countries.  The ARP Church supports missionaries in areas including Pakistan, Mexico, Russia, Egypt, Germany and Wales.  As connected congregations, we also provide support for a monthly magazine, Christian education curriculum, and our denominational offices. As you can see, the ARP Church as congregations and as a denomination is active in mission work that is both broad and varied. We invite you to become a part of our vibrant outreach to our neighborhood and world in the name of Jesus Christ.

What is an ARP?
The Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church traces its roots to the Presbyterian Church in Scotland which was formed following the Protestant Reformation.  John Knox is acknowledged as the reformer responsible for carrying Presbyterian beliefs to Scotland. The religious situation at the time was very tumultuous.  Two divisions occured in the Church of Scotland during this time the first, in 1733 resulting in the formation of the Associate Presbytery. The second, in 1743 brought about the formation of the Reformed Presbytery. Members of both groups migrated to America and would merge in 1782 to form the Associate Reformed Church. The Church was divided into four Synods. One of these Synods was the Synod of the Carolinas. On April 1, 1822 the Synod of the Carolinas became a separate denomination with the name of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.  The ARP church of today extends far beyond the Carolinas reaching as far north as Canada, as far south as Florida and Texas and as far west as California.  Composed of ten Presbyteries, our 2006 statistics report a total of 35,000 members. We invite you to consider membership in a congregation of this historic and mordern denomination the ARP Church.
